betahaus Neukölln is our second coworking location in Berlin, that will open doors in April this year. The space is all about reconnecting with the makers and freelancers that made this part of the city awesome in the first place. It offers mix of team rooms, coworking areas, event spaces, and creative studios, but here are 5 fun facts you probably didn’t know about betahaus Neukölln.
Turning historical buildings into coworking spaces is becoming our new thing. After we took over the iconic HQ of German newspaper taz close to Checkpoint Charlie and became a proud owner of the relief sculpture Friede sei mit Dir also known as ''the cock of Berlin'', our second building in Neukölln has not less of an exciting history behind it.
betahaus Neukölln is being set up in the iconic Geyer Werke building on Harzer Straße 39 which was the oldest film factory in Germany. It was named by the famous Karl August Geyer, founder of Kino-Kopier-Gesellschaft m.b.H, that changed drastically the film industry in Germany. Numerous well-known movies of the post-war period were edited and produced there. Few of the titles you might have heard of already are Tatort, Das Leben Der Anderen (The Life Of Others) or the new crime-drama series Berlin Babylon.
The new betahaus Neukölln is filled with history from the inside out. The architecturally significant building on Harzer Straße 39 was built from 1927 to 1928 by the famous Otto Rudolf Salvisberg. Working in Germany from 1905 to 1930, the Swiss architect has created many important projects in Berlin, such as the UNESCO "White City" in Berlin -Reinickendorf and the U3 metro station Onkel Toms Hütte.
Now, this same building is slowly being transformed into a 6-floor coworking space. The building has access to a beautiful courtyard with a garden and a pond where you can take a break during the workday.
From the start of last week betahaus Neukölln is already welcoming the first startups and teams. Frontier Car Group was the first team to move in last week. Their team of 70 people took over the 4th floor of the building enjoying the spring sun from our attic. Frontier Car Group is a Berlin-based startup that develops, launches, and operates used-automotive marketplaces within emerging market economies, with operations in Nigeria, Mexico, Chile, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
Together with them we welcomed 56 students (or as they call themselves - Leinners) coming from Team Labs, Spain who will spend 6 weeks with us and use our office spaces and meeting rooms for their Berlin-based program and team-building activities.
The first Pro Members are also starting soon and we already love their missions. Ocean Now! is a NGO which has an amazing approach accelerating ocean protection. They work with the medium of art to motivate decision makers in politics and economy to end the destruction of the Ocean -Now! and have settled on ur 3rd floor.

In April 2019 betahaus is turning 10! It’s been a whole decade since we opened our first coworking location at Moritzplatz and if you know us well enough, you know that there’s no way we're skipping a 10-years anniversary without a huge birthday bash. For this one, we've invited Berlin-based artists and creatives to take over our building in Neukölln and turn it into a party venue and an immersive art exhibition.
