Let's backup a step. What is coworking?
Coworking is a exchange or collaboration between self-employed people or people working for different employers by working out of an open space. "Working together" in a coworking community can mean anything from working on your own business or project in a shared space to simply exchanging an idea in the hallway. Some people enjoy coworking spaces for the spontaneous jam sessions in the event spaces while others come to find freelancers or business partners. You can make this space whatever you want it to be.
What's the difference between working at a coworking space and a café?
In order to take your business or project to the next level, you’ll need to work alongside people with varied expertise. By working for a coworking space like betahaus, you'll find a professional network as well as a workspace. You might meet clients, customers, colleagues, or co-founders. By joining a coworking community, you'll be able to spend time with people and in spaces that foster inspiration, motivation, courage, and knowledge sharing
Why should I choose betahaus over other coworking spaces?
That’s an easy one for us to answer. There are three main things that make our space a bit different from the other coworking spaces.
1. We're community driven. Our space is driven by the ideas and creativity of our members.
2. We prioritize sharing. Rather than competing, we want you to feel comfortable contributing your ideas, expertise, and skills to the community.
3. We're grassroots. We were founded in 2009 by six students with an entrepreneurial mindset. Our space is designed by our members, and is meant to be flexible and collaborative. Most importantly, we know what it’s like to be a startup because we were a startup for years. In many ways, we still are! For this reason, we understand the needs of startups in a way few other coworking spaces do.
What is the community like?
We believe the core strength of our community is its diversity. Diversity in fields of expertise, professional background, ways of working, experience, age, and personality. These are the very factors that allow people to learn from each other, build powerful collaborations, and grow stronger and smarter, both as individuals and as a community.
The betahaus community in Berlin consists of around 1,000. We're made up of about 30% startups, 30% entrepreneurs or small business owners, 20% creatives or makers, and 10% innovative corporate teams. You’ll find founders, marketers, managers, legal advisors, architects, graphic designers, illustrators, programmers, photographers, journalists, writers, academics, non-governmental organizations, and remote teams of all kinds. We also have a gender balance with 40% female and 60% male members.
How do I get to know other people in the community?
For starters, there’s a community slack channel where members can communicate. We also have lots of events going on! We organize several community events each week, and have another 1,000 meetups and tech events happening in our space each year. There are plenty of opportunities to meet people! The community events we organise are:
betabreakfast: Every Thursday from 10:00-11:00, we organize a community breakfast where you can meet other members and listen to three startups pitching.
betabooze: Every last Thursday of the month from 18:00-Late, we host our biggest community event, betabooze. Join us for free beers, ping pong, dancing, good music, and networking with other members.
Check our full event agenda here.
